Parshas Shemos starts the beginning of Bnei Yisroel\’s enslavement in Miztrayim.

We made checkerboard cake to look like the bricks Bnei Yisroel were forced to make.

White Cake:
7 eggs separated
1 c sugar
1/4 c oil
1 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 Tbsp lemon juice
Beat egg whites and 1/4 c sugar till stiff. Mix rest of ingredients and fold into the whites. Bake at 350 for 20 min in 10×15 pan

Chocolate Cakes:
7 eggs separated
1 c sugar
1/4 c oil
1/2 c flour
1/2 c cocoa
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
Beat egg whites and 1/4 c sugar till stiff. Mix rest of ingredients and fold into the whites. Bake at 350 for 20 min in 10×15 pan

Once both cakes are cool flip them out and cut into quarters so you have 4 rectangles, then each rectangle into 3 strips.

Filling:
1/4 c margarine
2 Tbsp cocoa
2 Tbsp coffee grounds
1/2 tsp salt
3 c powdered sugar
5 Tbsp whip topping

Mix all ingredients together well.

Alternate strips of cake so that you have a checkerboard. Build it 4 levels high with filling in between (makes 2 cakes).
