Parshas Tetzveh discusses the garments the Kohanim and Kohen Gadol wore when they did the avodah. One of the most special items the Kohen Gadol wore, was the Choshen. It was 1 ammah square (aprox. 10″), made out of multiple materials, and worn over the chest. It had 12 stones set in gold settings embedded on it, with each stone having the name of one of the shevatim engraved on it.<\/p>\n

\nIn this weeks dessert we made cookies to resemble the Choshen that the Kohen Gadol wore.<\/p>\n

1- We made a batch of sugar cookies and used a square cookie cutter to cut the shapes out (you can easily use a knife if you don\\’t have a cookie cutter)<\/p>\n
\nSugar Cookies
\n2 Sticks Margarine
\n1 c Sugar
\n3 c Flour
\n3 tsp Baking powder
\n2 tsp Vanilla sugar
\n2 Eggs
\nDrop Orange Juice
\nCream margarine and sugar, then add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Refrigerate dough for about 30 minutes. Roll out and cut shapes. Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
2- We used mini-chocolate lentils to represent the stones by pressing the chocolates 4 x 3 into the raw dough. Push the chocolates in firmly so they wont fall out. Then bake. <\/div>\n
3- Once the cookies cooled we poked small holes using a toothpick into the 4 corners. <\/div>\n
4- We threaded lasso string candy through the holes to represent the chains that held the Choshen on. <\/div>\n
