This week is a also a double parsha. Many different laws are discussed throughout both parshiyos. We decided to focus on the mitzvah of orlah in which we are commanded not to derive any benefit from the fruit of a tree within the first three years of it being planted. In the fourth year the fruit is brought to Yerushalayim where the owner expresses his gratitude to Hashem and is eaten there with certain restrictions. From the fifth year and on it may be treated as ordinary fruit.
We made cookie fruit trees to represent this mitzvah.
1- We made our standard sugar cookie recipe and cut out the shapes with a flower shaped cookie cutter. We placed the cookies on top of sticks so that they would be baked together.

2- Once the cookies cooled, we iced them using a green mint icing (powdered sugar, water, mint extract, green food coloring).
3- We then sprinkled green sugar crystals over it and placed a few hard fruit candies on.
4- We then pushed the stick through a presidor waferroll so our tree had a “trunk”.
