Parshas Terumah discusses the Mishkan and some of the kelim that were created and kept there. The Aron (box) was made as a channel through which Hashem communicated with Moshe. It was made using 3 boxes. The middle box was made of wood, and the outer and inner boxes were made of gold. A sefer torah, and both sets of luchos were kept inside. Attached to the cover were two Keruvim facing each other with their wings outstretched over the cover. There was a beautiful trim (zeir zahav) that ran around the top edge of the outermost box.
We used rice krispie treats to create the Aron with its different parts

1 – Start with a batch of peanut butter rice krispie treats (you will probably need at least 2 batches for this project)
Peanut butter rice krispie treats:
1 c sugar
1 c corn syrup
1 c peanut butter
6 c rice krispies
Melt the first 3 ingredients than add the rice krispies
1 c sugar
1 c corn syrup
1 c peanut butter
6 c rice krispies
Melt the first 3 ingredients than add the rice krispies
2 – Working while the rice krispie treats are still warm, firmly press about a 1/2 inch thick layer to the bottom and sides of an empty shoe box or tissue box covered in wax paper. (spray the wax paper with pam)
3 – Make a batch of chocolate rice krispie treats (same as the peanut butter recipe, just add 8oz of choc chips to the pot)
4 – Firmly press the chocolate layer (also a 1/2 inch thick) on top of the peanut butter layer to represent the second box. Leave about 1/2 an inch from the top so the outer box is taller than the inner.
5 – Again using the peanut butter version, press another layer on top of the chocolate layer. Only go up as high as the chocolate layer.
6 – Cut out holes for the rings on the sides now as once the box hardens it will be difficult to do.
7 – Create the cover separately using the peanut butter version by creating a large rectangle to fill the open top of the box.
8 – Make the Keruvim with the peanut butter treats by making a round ball and rectangle on a skewer
9 – “Glue” the chocolate potato chips together with melted chocolate to represent wings, then use melted chocolate to attach them to the Keruvim
10 – Wait until the boxes and kruvim harden before trying to take the treats out of the box
11 – Using melted chocolate stick the rings into the holes you created
12 – Place 2 chocolates in the center of your Aron and cover with the cover you created. Stick the 2 Keruvim on top facing each other with wings outstretched.
13 – Use chocolates and lentils to decorate the border so there is a pretty trim around the cover
14 – Put candy canes through the rings as poles
